Facial Feature- Speak

This is a magnified look at lips. I drew a partially opened lips that show a glimpse of teeth. the lips are full and still in black and white. I wanted to focus on shading so I shaded the cupid's bow of the lip and all the creases to give a more realistic look. this is named Speak because it is the moment before one would speak.

Prospective Art- Pocahontas themed

The theme of this was Pocahontas, in the movie, "colors of the wind" was my favorite song and scene out of every Disney movie. I made her a white silhouette to offset the colorful theme. It was made out of several types of paper to give a textured look as well.

Stop Motion- Bear Down

This stop motion displays what its like to receive an acceptance letter for college. University of Arizona was my top choice and it was relieving to finally get accepted. This takes you throughout the months of waiting and shows the excitement of that moment when you get a big "Bear Down"package.

Year of Mercy- Water

The year of mercy is the year of forgiveness. This picture was taken at a beach and the water reminds me of Mercy. Water cleanses the world and makes all things pure again. It does the same thing as Mercy does. Mercy keeps things pure and washes away all sins. When we ask forgiveness from God we ask him to have Mercy on us. Water and Mercy goes hand in hand.

Conceptual Art- Lively

This art was conceptual as in what this word means to us. I chose a football game for lively. Lively for me means very energetic and full of people showing enthusiasm for something. In this picture the crowd shows their pride by wearing 49er gear and are cheering on their team at the home field. The crowd was vibrant and the picture captures all the people showing support and liveliness for the 49er team.

Naked Pop Art

This project was taking something small and magnifying it. We decided to make a Naked Palette. The container was made of a cardboard box with paint all over it. We painted the entire box besides the mirror. The mirror is made of foil. The box is able to open and close just like a real naked palette. The colors had to careful be blended to match the Naked 3 palette eyeshadow design. This project took us about 2- 3 weeks to complete and we thought we were very successful with the construction and painting of the project. 

Night & Day Notan Art

This art is supposed to be very contrasted. So I thought about what really was contrasting, which is night and day. I cut out sun rays and stars. I removed some of the sticker and placed it on opposite sides. On one side there is a sun with a star in the middle and more stars on the inside of the white. On the other side there is a moon with sun rays surrounding it and white star in the middle and on the outskirts of the sundays. This gave a great look on both a contrasting theme and contrasting colors.

Water Color Volcano

In this project I painted a volcano with water colors. I tried to color the entire paper with a dark sky and dark brown volcano then a light colored lava spewing from the top. To complete this project I blended a lot of colors and for a textured look for the volcano I put salt on the paper then proceeded to paint over the salt. After I painted the paper I wanted a more real effect. So I splattered yellow, red, and orange all over the paper to make the lava look more live.

Shading

This was my favorite piece for shading. I used geometric shape for the sphere and cone. then to give it a 3D effect  rather than 2D, I kept the middle lighter than the edges. The edges are darker than the middle so it gives a varied black, grey and white of the spectrum. No color was added, but this a crisp clean sphere and cone that I impressed myself with because it was my first attempt with charcoal.

Scratch Board

To complete this project I used a thumbtack and needle to scratch out the black and reveal the white underneath. I used a variety of lines to mimic the hair of a tiger. Some were long, short, layers and one the ears I scratched out entire parts to give it a touch of reality. I used some shape for the eyes, and tried to give a large scale black, grey, and white. The ears were the most white while the stripes were the darkest. I finished my project and added some India ink. I used tangerine and orange for the fur then to the eyes I used green to make it pop. I used vibrant colors to capture the attention of the viewer and show the fierceness of the Serbian tiger.

Artist Statement

           This year, in the beginning of art I feared that I was truly inexperienced and that art class

wouldn't be enjoyable because I have never taken a formal course. I hoped that this could give more

confidence to sketch and see myself grow in a field that I have no experience in.  Prior to being in art, if

 there was a school assignment that included art I would immediately frown and become less confident

of my work. It was never a strong suit of mine, so coming into this class was a leap of faith for me. I

learned that art was actually therapeutic and enjoyable. A real stress reliever it has become for

me. I went from being scared to show anyone my work to sketching for fun. I found it easier and easier

 once I learned the basics of art that was taught in class. I learned that taking a risk may come as a

positive, and a talent may never be discovered if I never try. Trying my best has always been natural to

 me, and with art I learned that I love to challenge myself. I like to set high goals and in time achieve

them, even if it's not right away.

           My best piece was the single charcoal sketch. The apple showed my growth the most. The apple

 showed my best work of value and shape. It was a very clean piece and depicted what I wanted. It

showed where the light hit the apple and where the shadow came over the fruit. I was impressed in my

ability to recognize the light and dark spots then drawing it on my paper. The apple was my best work

this semester. The lines were clean, the value was varied, and the shading gave a great 3D effect. My

 least favorite piece was my color wheel. I could have balanced out the blue-green better because the

green took over more than the blue. The color wheel reflected poorly of my coloring ability. I could

have made the primary colors more vibrant and balanced out the secondary and tertiary colors in the

wheel.
      In the past two months, the pieces focused on the combination of value, line, shape, color, and

creativity. From sketch books, to other papers and it gave the artwork different textures and effects.

The scratchboard was our final project and my favorite. All the skills we learned over the course of two

 months had to be put together and demonstrated to make the art work the best possible. With art, I

tended to do the bare minimum but currently I try to do above what I think I am capable of. When I

complete a project I thought I could not succeed in, then do it to my liking, it boosts my self esteem to

try harder things. Overall, I thought my artwork was impressive to me at least because I had no

experience or confidence whatsoever. Now I look forward to new challenges and setting new

standards. To improve next semester, I could work more on color. I do see myself struggling with

balancing color or not adding enough. I plan to use more and balance out the colors in my work.

Shoe Sketch

This is a sketch of an Under Armor Hi-Top cleat. the sketch included structural lines and varying lines of straight, curved, thick and thin. The show was drawn to give a 3D effect. some shading and value occurred in between the tongue of the show and the top of the cleat to show the depth of these items in the shoe. There were many geometric shapes that were incorporated in the shoe. There was a use of trapezoids and and oval for the front of the shoe and half circles for the cleat emblem. Those are just some geometric shapes that were used.

Grouped Still Life

In this still life many things were incorporated. Value was essential and was demonstrated through the variety of black, grey, and white. The grapes were darker and the shading showed they were, while the apples in the background had most of the light. It gave a large variety of grey in between as well, like the leaves of the grapes. Many shapes were shown, most were spheres like the grapes and apples. The other things such as the leaves and the cloth showed the technique of lines because it gave a variety of lines as well. From straight to curved, dark, light, thick, thin, all types of lines were incorporated. Most of the negative space was accounted for and covered with the cloth, and the drawing depicts that. The shading gave a 3D effect and it also showed texture. The texture for the fruits was smooth and rounded. The background surrounding the fruit was a bit rough and stiff and I think the picture showed that.

Single Charcoal Drawing

This was solely focusing on value. Value is the contrast between light and dark. For the Apple, I tried to catch where the light was hitting the apple and implement that in the piece. I noticed that there was a shadow as well, so to incorporate value, I shaded the apple with darker and heavier coats of black charcoal. To the areas that the light hit the apple, I applied white charcoal to those areas.The texture of the apple was smooth and shiny and by putting the white I think it gave the illuminating effect of a round and shiny surface. The shading and shadow, it also gave the illusion of the apple being a 3D effect. The shape of the apple was more rounded, not a perfect sphere but, a rounded shape.

Color Wheel

This is a color wheel presenting all the colors from primary, secondary, and terciary colors. I experimented with water colors to create color. I had to balance out warm colors like orange and yellow , then cool colors like blue and violet. The color wheel demonstrated my knowledge of the three primaries, Red, blue and yellow.

Canvas Bag Emblem

This is an emblem that was placed on a canvas bag with transfer paper. It has my name, initials and things that closely relate to me. To create the design I used line drawing.  Line is demonstrated throughout this entire piece from the thick outline of the MP, to the calligraphy-like Mariah. Line was used for this because it makes a string appearance to the eye and also gives a variety of lines as well. Short, big, thick, curved, broken, and continuous lines all were presented, and was the main technique used.

Contour Line Hand Drawing

This is a hand forming the shape of the "b" in sign language. To do this drawing I used Contour lines to complete this. That means I didn't use shading and the outside lines of the hands are thicker and more defined. For the lines of the hand used a combination of thick and thin lines rather than shading. It got the same effect as it would if i had shaded.
